Optional/Alternative Items

In sales quotes, the FYN Layouts App allows you to mark optional and alternative lines. This feature lets you offer flexible quote variations to your customers—without affecting the total amounts of the document.

How It Works

In a sales quote, two special options are available per line:

• Alternative Line
  Offered instead of another line

• Optional Line
  May be selected in addition

These settings are controlled via two boolean fields (Yes/No fields) directly in the line of the document.

💡Note: A line cannot be marked as optional and alternative at the same time.

Report Display

As soon as a line is marked as optional or alternative:

• an informational label is displayed in the report (e.g., “Alternative Line”)
• the line is visually distinguished (e.g., with * or italic styling)
• the line amount is excluded from subtotals and grand totals

This ensures that customers can clearly recognize the line as a voluntary or alternative option.

Limitations & Notes

• This feature is only available in sales quotes, not in orders, invoices, or purchase documents

• When converting a quote into an order, optional and alternative lines must

  • either be removed
  • or converted into regular lines by unchecking the corresponding field

This step is required because orders do not support optional or alternative lines.
